Spring cleaning your laminate benchtop

Last week we started getting ready for warmer weather by giving the kitchen a good old Spring clean: getting down and dirty with the inside of the oven, defrosting the freezer and popping a nice bunch of flowers in a favourite vase to really brighten up the place.   This week we’ve moving onto benchtops. If replacing your benchtop is not on the cards this summer, here's how to get your current laminate benchtop sparkling like new!

Spring cleaning your laminate benchtop

  • For simple cleaning, use a nylon bristled hand or vegetable brush, along with a mild liquid detergent-and-water solution
  • For tough stains, use Ajax Spray n Wipe or other mild household cleaner and allow it to draw out the stain (test the cleaner on a small, discreet area first; Laminex New Zealand cannot be held responsible if a cleaner changes its formulation and it harms the laminate).
  • Clean the soiled area using a rotating motion
  • Wash with warm water
  • Dry the surface with a towel or lint-free cloth

When it comes to cleaning laminate benchtops, less is more. Never use abrasive cleaners, powders, scouring pads, steel wool, sandpaper, waxes or polishes etc. These can damage the surface finish and make it susceptible to staining.  For more information on cleaning your benchtop, please see the particular product specific information sections on the relevant product website:
